The country has a huge range in climate: northeast is subtropical with rain throughout the year, while the Tierra del Fuego in the south has a sub-arctic climate. The main central area is temperate, but can be hot and humid during summer (December to February) and cool in winter.

Remember that in the Southern hemisphere the seasons are the opposite of those in the Northern hemisphere. In general, the southern summer with mild temperatures and long days is the most ideal time to visit Patagonia and the Southern Andes. You should bear in mind that the high season is during the months of January and February (their summer holidays) and July (winter holidays). During those periods the local tourism grows and prices get generally higher. The central Sierras (Cordoba and San Luis) and the beaches of the Buenos Aires coast are popular.

Winter time (June, July and August), is recommended for travelling to the North and Northwest e.g. to visit Misiones and Iguazú Falls as the rains are less frequent and the tropical temperatures drop a few degrees. Patagonia may also be visited at this time. It is less windy than in the summer, whales reach the Valdes Peninsula in mid-June (a navigation with no wind is a highlight!), Ushuaia has very well developed winter activities and hosts Argentina's newest and most modern ski resort - Cerro Castor. El Calafate and the Perito Moreno Glacier can be visited with the new Leal Cruiser and the local people report that winter is, perhaps, the best time to visit Perito Moreno due to the wonderful light. At this time, there are flights from Buenos Aires to Patagonia 2-3 times a week.

You can enjoy Buenos Aires the whole year even though in summer (especially January and February), it is quite hot.
