Traveling throughout Colombia is easy. There are many local bus operators that provide cheap and reliable services. The roads however, particularly off the main highways vary from decent to barely roadworthy. It is best to travel by taxi in the main cities because they are relatively cheap and the buses in these areas tend to be slow and overcrowded, particularly during the local holiday season (late Dec- January)

In rural areas the predominant form of transport is by chiva, which are old style wooden buses, and collectivos, which are a cross between a taxi and a bus. Collectivos usually have a predetermined route which is written on signs on the side of the windscreen. Alternatively, Colombia has an extensive domestic airline industry. You can charter flights to most destinations with relative ease.
