The currency in Guatemala is the Quetzal. The US$ became legal tender in May 2001 and is by far the most widely accepted foreign currency.
The exchange rate is relatively stable although fluctuations do occur. Currently roughly US$1 = 8 quetzales; UKŁ1 = under 14 quetzales.

Credit cards are always useful for withdrawing money. Visa and Mastercard are accepted in upmarket shops, restaurants and hotels. All large towns have ATM facilities.
