Republica Dominicana

The Dominican Republic has 27 climate zones so weather varies from desert-like conditions to rain forest conditions. Temperatures are quite warm throughout the country all year with an average of 25-30 degrees Celsius. Officially the hurricane season runs from the beginning of June until the end of November but historically most tropical storm activity occurs during July and August. Many tourists dress casually while on vacation when going out to dinner, to bars, or to clubs, however there are higher end resorts and restaurants in the larger cities with a more specific dress code. For this reason it’s important to bring a nice set of clothing or two for going out in the evening. In the event you forget certain items, most Dominican Republic tourism destinations will probably sell most of what you might need, except usually at a higher price. We recommend you bring the following:

  • Bathing/swim suit and towel(s)
  • Shorts & T-shirts
  • Hat/sunglasses
  • Long pants (for cooler weather and/or protection from mosquitoes)
  • Light jacket, sweater or sweatshirt (for cooler weather)
  • Light rain jacket and/or umbrella
  • Comfortable & breathable shoes for walking around or for participating in adventure sports or other activities
  • Sandals/flip-flops
  • Dress shoes for evenings out
  • Soap, shampoo & conditioner, toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Waterproof sunscreen/sun block with a high sun protection factor (SPF)
  • First aid supplies: pain reliever, upset stomach medicine, Band-aids, etc.
  • Any prescription medicines you may need
  • Mosquito/bug repellent
  • Passport/Identification (and photocopy of each kept a separate place)
  • Driver's license (and photocopy) if you plan on Renting A Vehicle
  • Travel medical insurance
  • Camera
