Spanish Program

Levels Upon arrival and before starting the Spanish classes, students take a Spanish exam for level placement and to ensure their individual needs are addressed.  The school offers Spanish group courses, private courses, semi-individual courses and other special modules.  Group classes have a maximum of eight students and an average of four.  Various other courses available to students are DELE-preparation, business Spanish, medical Spanish, Spanish & Ski and Spanish & Wine.  All programs give students insight into the cultural, political, socio-economic, historical and ecological conditions in Chile.

Volunteer Program

Activities Students have the option to augment their Spanish lessons and volunteer in Chile at a local organization.  Internship opportunities are available to students in addition to standard volunteer opportunities, including positions in Chilean and international companies of different size and trade, Chilean governmental institutions and various other non-governmental organizations focused on social, ecological, ethnic or cultural issues. By doing an internship in Chile you are able to contribute to the Chilean society and develop useful professional skills.  A good knowledge of the Spanish language is required to volunteer or intern, therefore, it is required to take language classes before starting your placement, to ensure that specific needs are fulfilled.

Accommodation

Activities

Students have the choice between varies types of accommodation in Santiago. You can stay in a nice apartment, mini-apartments or one-room studios, in a homestay with a Chilean guest family, or in a hostel/boutique accommodation. The different types of accommodation are all within a 45 minute distance from the school.  Apartments offer either single or double rooms and have shared bathrooms, a kitchen, washing machine, room cleanings and bed sheets.  Family stays provide students an insight into Chilean family life.  They allow students to practice Spanish and experience the lifestyle of a common Chilean family.

The Spanish school offers various free activities to students every week:

  • Welcome reception with empanadas and wine
  • Field trip to a wine vineyard
  • Visits to museum of Pablo Neruda, pre-Columbian museum, Archeological museum or the Museum of Fine Arts
  • ‘Intercambio’with Chilean students
  • Salsa, Merengue or Cueca courses

In addition to the school activities, students can participate in weekend excursions to explore Chile: the Andes mountains, hot springs, national parks and the coast for adventurous outings such as rock climbing, trekking, rafting or skiing.  Recommended tours in Chile include La Serena, the Elqui valley, Pucón and the Villarrica Volcano.
