Ciudad Perdida (Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta) – 7 days (including accommodation in Santa Marta before and after the trekking) - Colombia


Location: Santa Marta - "Mamay" – ‘Ciudad Perdida’
Starting / Ending Point: ‘Park Hotel’ in Santa Marta
 You will spend the night at Park Hotel in Santa Marta, a hotel in the colonial part of town, situated on the boulevard. On your first hiking day, at around 09:00 am you will be picked up from the hotel and depart from Santa Marta to Machete pelao, Mamay, a journey of 2 to 2.5 hours on a bad road. From here the trek begins. After 3 to 4 hours you will arrive at a finca called Donde Alan. Here will you sleep in hammocks and you can swim in a nearby creek.

The next day, a walk of about 4 hours takes you past some settlements of the Kogi Indians in the Valley of the River Buritaca. You will overnight in hammocks on the banks of the Buritaca river where you can swim as well.

On the third hiking day, after walking for 4 to 5 hours - crossing the river Buritaca several times and passing a number of Kogi Indian settlements - you will reach the entrance to Ciudad Perdida (the Lost City). From here, it takes a brisk walk for about 45 minutes to climb the ancient steps to the climax of the hike, the lost city. Here you will get a tour. You will overnight in cabins near Ciudad Perdida.

The next day you will leave early in the morning back to the finca 'Donde Alan´ on the same route as the outward journey. En route you will stop at the cabins of Mutanshi for lunch. This is a long and difficult day.

On the last day you will walk back about 3 hours to ' Mamay´ where transport is waiting for you to bring you back to the Park Hotel in Santa Marta. You will overnight at the hotel to rest.

Important: It is required to be vaccinated against yellow fever
