Location: Galápagos
Starting / Ending Point: Quito or Guayaquil

The Galápagos Islands are an archipelago of volcanic islands, well-known for their fantastic nature and animals. This land tour offers you the opportunity to explore these enchanted islands with the beautiful island Isabela as a homebase. On Isabela you can find 5 active volcanoes. You will see flamingos and will also visit the best place to see the giant turtles in their natural environment.

On your first day you will fly from Quito or Guayaquil to the island of Baltra. You will be collected from the airport and travel to the island of Santa Cruz to Puerto Ayora, where you will take the speed boat to Puerto Villamil on the island of Isabela.  You will visit the Flamingo Lagoon, the largest coastal lagoon found in Galápagos and one of the main reproductive sites for the majority of flamingos.

The next day you will go on a full day tour to the Sierra Negra Volcano. This volcano is located at 13 miles from Puerto Villamil and is the world’s second largest volcanic crater, measuring 6 miles in diameter and 300 feet deep.

On the third day you will go to the Giant Tortoise Breeding Center, where you will visit “The Wall of Tears”. From 1946 to 1959, Isabela was designated a penal colony by the Ecuadorian government. Prisoners were obligated to build a wall with enormous blocks of lava. Due to the arduous labour and harsh conditions in which the prisoners lived, this site is known as “El Muro de las Lagrimas”. If you like, you can also visit a small lava tunnel and another flamingo lagoon.  In the afternoon you go to “Isla Tintoreras” where white-tip sharks, known as “tintoreras”, come daily to rest on the bottom. You can also observe penguins; sea lions, marine iguanas and you can go snorkelling with sharks and colourful tropical fishes and enjoy the beaches of Isabela.

Early in the morning on day 4 you will take the speedboat from Puerto Villamil to Puerto Ayora on the island Santa Cruz, where will start your visit in the Highlands of Santa Cruz. You can enjoy a wonderful visit to see giant turtles in their natural habitat. After lunch you will return to Puerto Ayora and go to the Charles Darwin Research Station and the Interpretive Centre. Here you will have the great opportunity to see Lonesome George, the last Galápagos turtle of its species.

On the last day of this tour you will visit “Los Gemelos” (The Twins), craters which were formed by a collapse of the earth because of the lava flows that passed below it. The tour will end upon arrival to the airport where you will depart to Quito or Guayaquil.

The only possibility to get to and from the islands is by plane. There are three airlines that fly to the Galápagos islands: Tame, Aerogal and LAN. Each cruise uses one of the three airlines and fixed flight numbers to make sure that all passengers arrive at the same time. For certain cruises it may be obligatory to book a certain flight with a certain airline. Check with us for further information.
