THE PROJECT

This project is located in the beautiful Galapagos Islands with the main goal of improving the sustainability of the islands through environmental, community and social initiatives. Contrary to the majority of volunteer programs on the Islands, this organization focuses on the environment, as well as on the communities living on the islands, through various educational activities and mentorships.

Volunteers have many important opportunities to help through assisting the projectís staff in starting reforestations, collaborating with educational programs promoting environmental issues through the encouragement of the plantation of local vegetation. Participating in this project and working with the local community is a unique and beautiful way to explore the Galapagos and discover its wildlife.

YOUR ROLE AS A VOLUNTEER

As a volunteer, you may be asked to help eliminate introduced or invasive plant species, help restore native species (which is first done by growing the plants in a greenhouse), or helping to maintain the organic garden. You may also be asked to participate in community projects or mentoring children from the island on environmental tasks. Volunteers are expected to work Monday to Friday, both mornings and afternoons.

WHAT THE PROJECT NEEDS

To work at this project volunteers must have a basic knowledge of Spanish, a love for nature, and the ability to commit to a time period of 4 weeks minimum. Volunteers should be willing to perform physically heavy work, live in a deserted environment, and not be afraid to get their hands dirty!
