THE PROJECT

This program contributes to the sustainable development of the marginalized and indigenous communities of South-East Mexico. The inhabitants of this area have created an eco-touristic infrastructure which allows them to provide services of accommodation, food and recreational activities, as well as other alternative productive projects. The staff and volunteers working for the organization help in education and training of the inhabitants by sharing knowledge and skills thus helping them to create a more functional and sustainable indigenous community.

YOUR ROLE AS A VOLUNTEER

The week begins at 8am on Monday when the volunteer coordinator explains and discusses the forthcoming tasks for the week. Activities vary on a daily basis according to projects already in progress, the time of year and also on the volunteers’ length of stay. Volunteers will participate in various projects created by the inhabitants themselves, amongst which:

  • Cultural identity program for the community’s children Volunteers help out in classes on history and culture, preservation of the environment, community improvement, re-evaluation of the cultural identity through games and artistic activities.
  • Program to improve customer services and the quality of the infrastructure of the eco-touristic complex - Participants will collaborate giving workshops about how to improve customer services and infrastructure, bearing in mind that there is a growing number of national and foreign visitors.
  • Organic agriculture and orchard - The volunteers participate in the activities of maintenance, training and set-up of vegetable gardens and orchards in order for the marginalized communities to become more selfsufficient.
